BEFORE you read the book, the author suggests that every member of your family over the age of 15 take a crack at the quiz presented near the end of Chapter 11. The quiz was VERY carefully crafted by the author who previously completed Curriculum Development and Instructional Testing while serving as an instructor at the Federal Aviation Administration Academy. This quiz was administered to each and every one of our (primarily) 15- and 16-year-old students at the end of our 8 hours of classroom instruction. The quiz was NOT designed for our students to fail the quiz! Instead, it was designed to reinforce the tremendous load of information they were bombarded with during the classroom day.
During the opening of our classroom training, some students would express a degree of anxiety about taking the quiz later that day. Here was my answer: “If you pay attention during our 8 hours of instruction, you won’t have to worry about passing the quiz with at least 18 of the 25 questions answered correctly”. Then during the quiz review period, all incorrect answers by all students were reviewed in such detail that all students not only knew the correct answers, but they were also thoroughly versed in WHY they were the correct answers and WHY each of the other distractors were incorrect. During the entire tenure of the Coastal Academy of Driver Education, Training and Safety, only two TEEN students failed the quiz!!
